Benjamin Ott
Research Associate,
Institute for Energy Economics and Rational use of Energy - University of Stuttgart
Since 2021, Benjamin Ott has been a research associate at the Institute of Energy Economics and Rational Energy Use at the University of Stuttgart. He previously completed his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Energy and Process Engineering, at Leibniz University Hannover. Mr. Ott focuses on energy efficiency and waste heat utilization in industrial settings, with a particular emphasis on data centers.
In the Bytes2Heat project, he developed global best-practice overviews of waste heat utilization projects, identifying key success factors and providing a comprehensive technology review. He also contributed to a BMWK-funded research project on Germany’s data center strategy, where he analyzed technological developments in the sector.
As part of his doctoral research, Mr. Ott conducted a patent analysis of server room cooling technologies. Currently, he is working on the SMART-KS project, where he is developing and analyzing digital twins of cooling infrastructures. Additionally, he leads an project using sensor networks to analyze real-time waste heat dynamics in data center cooling systems, aiming to optimize waste heat recovery strategies and cooling solutions.
