The first descriptions of the concept of the distributed data mesh were published in 2022. At that time, a lot of people thought about how to implement a data mesh concept in Azure. While there were plenty of good suggestions, most of these were fairly complex, both in the implementation and the administration. In 2024 we have Microsoft Fabric, a SaaS data platform that fits many of the data mesh principles right of the box and promises an easy route to agile data management. This talk talks a quick look at the 4 main data mesh principles and their alignment with the ‘out-of-the-box’ functionality in Microsoft Fabric.
